Requirements Management Consulting

If you think about working with the requirements of your product

  • Do you find yourself unsure how to manage your requirements?
  • Do you have a clear understanding of how to think about them?
  • Are you overwhelmed by trying to choose a suitable tool?
  • Do you know how to write them correctly?
  • Do you understand how to organise them into a document or structure of documents?
  • Have you figured out how to deal with change?
  • How will you manage your requirements in a style that fits your team, product and industry?
  • How will you funnel them through your development workflow?
  • How will you test your product after it has been created?
  • How will you approach product qualification for safety-relevant devices, e.g. in the medical or automotive sector

If you’re unsure at all about how to approach requirements management, realise that you’re in excellent company! A large majority of engineers and managers struggle with such issues as I listed above, and for good reason. Requirements are just plain hard, and what’s worse: you can often only tell if your approach works once it stops working!

I’d love to work with you to answer any questions you have (and even the ones you don’t yet know you have!), and get you on track to creating great products confidently and systematically.

We can work together design a document style that meets your project’s needs – from classic IEEE 830 SRS, to Agile user stories, to Behaviour Driven Design (BDD), to everything in between.

I can help you design document trees that capture all steps of your workflow, from collecting the initial user requirements, to communicating with your engineers, to handling test descriptions and test results.

If you need help to get your processes in order to qualify safety-critical systems, I could support you; my personal experience is with ISO26262, DO-178B and IEC 61508

Requirements engineering is perhaps the hardest discipline in all of engineering. If a product’s requirements aren’t well understood, the resulting product can only be good by chance. On the other hand, changing requirements are perfectly normal and expected, and must be managed.

Here are just some suggestions on how I coud support your project:

  • teach you and your team how to write good requirements
  • help you structure your documents
  • provide guidance on how to set up a requirements workflow
  • create tools to automate or guide your workflow: from checklists to custom software

If you feel I could be of service to you, don’t hesitate to contact me!

As with all of my services, before we embark on a project we’ll conduct a Roadmapping session to get a clear understanding of your needs and goals and find out if we are a good fit.

I also provide specialised support for the excellent and cost-effective requirements management tool ReqView.
